TIME-HONORED AMERICAN STYLE
If there is one style of architecture that could epitomize the classic American summer, it is the shingled house. In the newest book on my coffee table, The New Shingled House: Ike Kligerman Barkley, distinguished architects Ike Kligerman Barkley guide us through 14 of their most stately homes built in the quintessential American shingle style.
The incredible homes in The New Shingled House range in location: from New England’s most exclusive ocean-front enclaves—Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island, and the Hamptons—to San Francisco’s Bay Area, and from South Carolina to Connecticut. In the slideshow I’ll give you an abbreviated tour of two of the 14 homes, both of which happen to be in the Hamptons: the first in Sagaponak and the second in Southampton.
