My friend Lois sent me the MP3 of Justin Timberlake’s Suit & Tie featuring Jay Z yesterday, and told me to listen to it, and then watch the video. (For those of you reading this via email, if you click on the title of this post you can view the video embedded below.)
I love it. And as soon as I saw the video I thought ‘I have to write about this for my Monday fashion column, because the look is right off the runway of… Jason Wu’s FW Spring/Summer 2013 Presentation!,’ which I attended in September as part of Brizo Fashion Week.
How perfect is everything in this collection (and how amazing is Jason Wu, by the way?!)? The cropped tailored shorts, the leather and lace, the red lips, and coiffed hair.
For this body of work, Wu was influenced by the Helmut Newton retrospective that ran at the Grand Palais in Paris in early 2012. Lillian Bassman and her signature black and white images were another reference point for the designer.
This collection by Wu is one of the most elegantly provocative I have ever seen. And Justin and Jay Z’s rat pack collab? A winner.
I think a Jason Wu, Justin, Jay-Z collaboration ought to be next.
