STYLE PROFILE IS AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW SERIES WITH TOP DESIGNERS AND TASTEMAKERS.
After perusing the boutique for the perfect piece for a client, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Bruce Tilley, the gentleman behind luxury consignment gallery Décor NYC.
Immediately apparent from the posh Chelsea storefront, Mr. Tilley’s approach to home décor is an innovative one — a consignment retail gallery with an elevated design aesthetic. Clientele include decorators, decorators’ clients, wholesalers, manufacturers, and individuals shopping for high quality home furnishings, fine art, and artifacts. Consignors are discriminating individuals on the move who need to liquidate or no longer wish to continue storing the unused furnishings of their apartment, loft, home, or office.
The Décor NYC gallery is such a unique shopping experience because all of the designer merchandise is available at moderate prices. The displays are upscale and inviting, the customer service is impeccable, and new items are added daily to the 6,000 SF space. Mr. Tilley, previously with fashion designer Alexander Julian, said that in researching furniture consignment he found a few online sources and a few brick-and-mortar thrift shops, but not much else for show-house pieces, items long in storage and purchases that decorators made for clients that did not work out.
“We have everything from period antiques to midcentury to the ’70s, as well as new product”
“We have everything from period antiques to midcentury to the ’70s, as well as new product,” Mr. Tilley explains. “We have a beautiful Biedermeier table a decorator bought for a client, but it was too small. I have a sofa from Kips Bay.” As is standard with consignments, the store, in Chelsea, takes 50 percent of each sale; anything unsold is returned to the consign or or may be donated to Housing Works.
