When a young couple with two children approached interior designer Tamara Magel about their family home in Scarsdale NY, they had two seemingly conflicting requests. Firstly, the couple asked Magel to design a fashion-forward home. Secondly they wanted their residence to be kid-friendly. As featured in Elle Decor and beautifully photographed by Rikki Snyder, the home that Magel designed achieves the perfect balance between comfortable glamour and family-friendliness.
RELAXED AND GLAMOROUS
To achieve their goals, Magel guided her clients on every aspect of the project. She advised them on reworking interior walls, the design of their custom kitchen, and the selection of all hardware, finishes, and paint throughout the home. To aid in a polished, yet casual aesthetic, the designer opted to paint all of the windows black, and forgo drapery treatments. To establish drama and sophistication, Ms. Magel maintained a high contrast palette of charcoals and creams through the interior as a whole. Brass accents add glamour, and a wealth of plush texture, from luxe furs to chunky knits keep everything cozy.
