Get to know Greenery, the fresh, yellow-green Pantone Color of the Year 2017.
THE PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR 2017
Every winter, the Pantone Color Institute names its Color of the Year. This shade symbolizes Pantone’s prediction of what the global population will wear, use as their preferred makeup colors, and decorate their homes with in the year ahead. Pantone Color of the Year 2017 is Greenery, a yellow-green evocative of the first days of Spring and the lushness of nature. Greenery is a refreshing, life-affirming shade, representative of new beginnings and the natural world. For me, greenery isn’t a color I would think to decorate with, and yet without it (i.e. the color of a living plant or cut flowers), an interior is never complete.
DESIGNERS WEIGH IN ON THE COLOR OF THE YEAR
Let’s hear what a few fellow designers have to say.
“Interiors mirror fashion, I believe the Pantone color ‘Greenery’ will serve as an accent color in designs. Green is a hard color to commit to. We’ll likely see decorative pillows, green glass, and trim before an entire room in this bright color is tried out. Fabric manufactures are often influenced by the Pantone color so there will definitely be moments of this green intertwined into new fabric lines and collections.” – Chad James Group
“This color is a challenge, would you really want it on all your walls? Probably not, but I think that’s the difference with a Pantone Color of the Year versus a paint manufacturers selection. I can see this bright green showing up as accents; pillows, trim on a drape or even as a statement piece like a chair. It certainly fits well with other trends like brass, which is a perfect partner, or the “new Neutrals. – Mark Cutler
“Green is my very favorite color. Growing up on a horse farm, green was the most moving and emotional color. Sitting in a clover field while pulling fistfuls of clover to mix into my pony’s grain dinner, I fell in love with green. The variations of green span the full range of emotions. Dark and moody, light and whimsical, bold and avant garde. Green can translate into any décor, style or fashion. What does green mean to me? Nature, beginning, trees, blooms, water, the essence of life on our beautiful planet. – Erica Broberg Smith
Greenery, the very word conjures up images from our past to our personal associations. Rebirth; Growth; Exploration; Nature; Envy. Typically we understand color as an object, things that are smaller than we are – shoes, nail polish, emeralds….When coloring spaces, we become the object. In planning living spaces, it’s vital to explore and include our clients, personality, lifestyle and location. – Gillian Rose
“Love this color, it is fresh without being harsh, it is grounding without being earthy. It will be a great accent or feature color. I am looking forward to using pops of this when accenting a neutral interior.” – Stephan Jones Interiors
