Well, it’s certainly about time! I’m excited to join Calling it Home‘s One Room Challenge™ as a Guest Participant.

The One Room Challenge is a biannual 6-week decorating event, currently in its 10th season. Each October and April, 20 design bloggers take the challenge to transform a space. Over six weekly Wednesday posts, designers document their process while sharing their professional advice and sources. Following the One Room Challenge is an excellent way to learn from a talented group of interior designers and bloggers.

Here’s where I come in. In addition to following the 20 designer makeovers, everyone with a blog, like me!, is welcome to join the fun as a Guest Participant by linking to their own “before and after” during the event. Over the next six Thursdays, prepare to enjoy my (and many other fabulous participants’) makeover posts, as the internet and social media fill with decorating ideas, inspiration, and encouragement.

I'm finally joining the One Room Challenge with a Rental Bathroom Makeover! Let's see what can be done in 5 short weeks to rescue and transform this tiny space into a proper Powder Bath!

After cheering on those who announced their ORC participation this week, as well as being thrilled with my Living Room Fall Decorations reveal yesterday, I’ve decided to keep the momentum going and join the fun with a rental bathroom makeover. Since moving from Manhattan to Northern Virginia last Spring, we have been living in a lovely rental house. Our Powder Bathroom is a premium One Room Challenge space because it’s small (40SF), and as per our lease, cannot be painted. Nail holes in the walls are also not permitted. Needless to say, I cannot change the tile, or fixtures. For these reasons, it’s a true challenge that I’ll be tackling!

I captured several rental bathroom makeover “before” photos this morning. Take a look through the slideshow: this is my starting point. If you’re wondering what my plans are for this space, I’ll see you next Thursday!

Good luck! We just moved and have spent three months on big-time renovations, so our own powder room will have to wait until the coffers fill back up. But every time I walk in there, and stare at the 90’s polished-brass light fixture, brass towel bar, and the silly pedestal sink that doesn’t hide the plumbing connections, I go into fantasy mode about what I will do there. So I will be looking for some good inspiration!

  • I can’t wait to see what you do, Sarah! Know it will be wonderful!

These pictures don’t show us much of the space, but just looking at this side of the room I already have a few ideas. I bet you do as well.
