I am beyond excited to share that — jazz drumroll, please — Vikas and I are moving from New York to Virginia!  I almost can’t believe I’m writing this, but actually I can, because I’m absolutely thrilled to FINALLY be able to share this news with all of you! To say that the last few months have been a whirlwind is the best way I can describe it, with so many changes happening all at once and it’s been a challenge to keep everything to myself until all the paperwork and details were finalized. Vikas and I decided last summer that our ten year plans (and even our 5 year plans) require way more space than is feasible for us in Manhattan, and that we would relocate once our lease expires at the end of May. We absolutely love our current building and the friendly staff that have made this feel like home for so many years. But all good things must come to an end. So we’re two New Yorkers headed for adventures way down in the sort-of South (and yes, we’re delighted to embrace whatever Southern cred the VA suburbs qualify us for!)

My husband’s brother and much of his extended family have lived in Virginia & Maryland for decades. And naturally we’ve visited them many times over the years. While neither my husband nor I ever thought we would live anywhere other than New York (or as a plan B, at least somewhere in the tri-state area), the prospect of spending more time with our three adorable nieces and nephew, VA’s amazing schools, and more affordable living made us realize that Virginia would be an ideal place for us. We’ve known we’d be moving since last year and have been excitedly planning our new life, while savoring as much of New York lifestyle as possible. It’s hard to believe that our May relocation date is soon approaching!

You know we can’t possibly survive too far from city life. So, where will we be exactly? We’ll be residing in the charming city of McLean, VA for our first year — a mere 20 minutes from Washington DC!  A twenty minute drive that is (you’ll be proud to know that we’re well on our way to becoming seasoned drivers!) And we’re right on the edge of a beautiful nature preserve that we plan to spend a lot of weekend afternoons exploring!

  • Wow, Sarah! Congrats, I’m so happy for you that you’ve decided on making the move. My 5 year plan is also coming to an end too, so hopefully my bf and I will move to LA or San Diego in the next few years. It’s a huge decision but getting out of your comfort zone is a good opportunity for you and your husband to grow. 🙂

    Wishing you all the best!
