After purchasing a farmhouse fixer-up, the first call a San Francisco family with three young children made was to Heidi Richardson of Richardson Architects. Under Heidi’s expert eye, the originally 2,000 SF house was brought down to the studs and a second story was added, almost doubling its home’s size. To fit the family’s contemporary, informal lifestyle, Heidi Richardson added scale and intimacy to the now 4,000 SF residence with soaring ceilings, exposed beams, and rustic wood floors.
To achieve the modern farmhouse look the homeowners love, Heidi and interior designer Jennifer Tidwell of Postcard Properties selected a color palette of grays and neutrals, and materials such as recycled wood. The home’s furnishings incorporate a mix of the owners existing pieces, Craigslist finds, and items from Serena & Lily, West Elm, Pier 1, and Crate & Barrel. The result is so stylishly simple and tranquil – it speaks San Francisco style, fluently.
