AT HOME WITH MARISA TOMEI

It is fab-u-lous to see Empire actress and Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei on the cover of the March issue of ELLE DECOR. In the interview, which hit newsstands today, Ms. Tomei shares her passion for art and vintage furniture shopping, as well as a visual feast of her colorful, eclectic NYC home in Greenwich Village.

As it turns out, and to my delight, Marisa is an avid online shopper for design finds on eBay, Live Auctioneers, and other sites. Marisa explains, “After working long hours on a set, I like to see pretty things. It helps me to wind down.” (Let’s just say, I get it.) When asked about her love of vintage, Tomei muses, “It has to do with being an actress. What are the details of another person’s life? What’s the history of an object?”

For the decoration of her beautiful condo in a 1931 Manhattan high-rise, Marisa collaborated with interior designer Alexandra Hayden. “Everything had to be elegant or tactile,” says Hayden, “because those are her two realities. She is either gussied up and going out, or in sweats recovering from a day on Broadway. She loves to feel grounded and cozy.” The interview and tour convey exactly how I picture Ms. Marisa to be at home.

In the slideshow below I’ve included a few of my favorite photos from the cover story. Take a look and then be sure to hop over to Elle Decor for the full tour and interview!
