A COZY LONG DOWN COAT

After living in New York City for 15 years, where everyone has cozy, black, long down coat, I’ve been surprised to see that in my new neck-of-the-woods in Northern Virginia, they are few and far between. I consider my coat, which I picked up from DKNY several years ago, to be a classic winter wardrobe piece. In NYC, where I walked or took the subway everywhere to get around, it was a perfect protector from gusty winds and icy cold weather. I would pair the coat with flat knee boots when I was dressed casually, and heeled knee boots when I wore a dress or skirt, and I was good to go. Now that I get into my car from our garage and spend very little time walking outdoors, I still find this coat to be ideal. It keeps me toasty while my car warms up and most of the time I barely want to turn the heat on while I’m driving.

HAT  /  SUNGLASSES  /  LIPSTICK  / COAT (similar) / HANDBAG / TURTLENECK TEE / BOYFRIEND JEANS / SUEDE PUMPS (similar, similar)

In this slideshow you’ll see a pretty typical winter outfit for me. I almost always wear boots in lieu of pumps but on this particular day it was warm enough to go without socks, so I did. I’ve been wearing this handbag I bought myself for my birthday all the time lately, and it’s so versatile because it’s a bucket and a backpack in one and can be worn either way. The hat was a Christmas gift from my brother to my husband, but sometimes I steal borrow it for a day or two. My boyfriend jeans are such an everyday favorite and were literally a steal at less than $40. These cat eye sunglasses are the best and I just saw that they’re now available for significantly less than I paid for them… which means I want to get a second, back-up pair. There are all great staples in this outfit, so take a look, and then check out 6 options for a long down coat of your own, in the last slide.
