Happy July 4th Weekend! As this week’s title suggests, in lieu of the usual end-of-week encouragement I give you on decorating and dressing with confidence, I’m sharing an update on life lately (mine, that is). As you’ll see, the moral of story will also be encouraging, but in a bit of a broader sense. [Deep breath.] Alright, so I’m going to start with (a:) life lately, follow it with some (b:) decorating and style inspo, and then ta-da!!… (c:) the best July 4th sales.

This morning I got an iMessage from one of my besties, asking how things are going. She and I text pretty much every day, but this AM I felt like giving her a more detailed answer than, “OK!” to her question of how my life is going. After I sent my response, I reread what I’d written, and realized it would make an honest “Life, Lately” post. If you don’t know the back story of my recent separation from my husband, you can find it here. With that aside, this is what I texted Lois.
Things are slowly, but surely, getting better. I can focus more, I’m learning how to cook basics, and how to feed myself when hungry, rather than just ignoring the hunger. Small acts of self-care like doing a full skincare routine at night, stretching at home (instead of just at yoga), putting on lotion (so basic, yet so never happening when you’re low-level functioning), showering and getting dressed in the morning, sitting at my desk (even if I don’t open my laptop), wanting to look nice just for myself and not only for dates (yes, Vikas and I agreed we could date at our time of separation)… all these little things are happening with greater consistency now.
I am also gradually getting back to writing every day, even if I don’t publish a word on the internet (…that would be this here blog). Just getting back into the habit, via pen and paper. Building up my confidence in my professional self and blog again.
Vikas and I have agreed to stay friends, and even with the occasional (expected) bumps in the road, we’re staying true to this and succeeding. I offered to help him organize/style his new place for a few hours, we had dinner on Father’s Day, and we have upcoming plans to hang with our niece and nephew.
I’m dating someone. I see him 2-3 times/week and I can completely be myself with him (life upside down and all).
Short version: life is getting less and less excruciating, bit by bit, and I am thankful. The moral of the story is keep going. We’ll get there.
DECORATING AND STYLE INSPO
+ Living by the water doesn’t get more laid-back than this.
+ A look inside swoon-worthy Hamptons homes.
+ A 30-something Parisian couple at home in the French countryside.
+ My most popular instagram of the week.
+ From the archives: 8 nom nom no-bake 4th of July recipes (2015). Yes – no bake. 👏
+ From the archives: a 4th of July tabletop decor DIY (2014).
+ Speaking of Instagram, it’s now double the fun. As of two weeks ago, I now share a quotation that I love as a preface to each Instagram post, and post the same content on my Facebook page, as well. If you don’t already, definitely add me on one or the other, or both, (most prefer Instagram), for daily inspirational quotes, in tandem with decorating and style inspo.
