The Bar at The Four Seasons, New York

Although completed in 1993, the I.M. Pei, Cobb, Freed, & Partners designed Four Seasons Hotel was designed with classic elegance that evokes all the glamor of a bygone era when a hotel stay was an event to remember. The hotel’s emphasis is not upon the ease of checking in or checking out with speed, but on savoring the luxury hotel experience, from the moment of entry – through to the smallest detail of a nightcap’s preparation at the simply titled cocktail bar: The Bar at The Four Seasons.
I recently had the pleasure of returning to the hotel’s bar with a group of friends. We entered through the 54-story, French Magny-limestone-clad tower’s illuminated East 57th Street entrance, into the Grand Foyer’s breathtaking 3,300 square foot, impossibly high-ceilinged space at the foot of one of the simplest yet grandest staircases in the city. Ascending the staircase the hotel’s ethos of discreet grandeur and ceremony unfolds.

To the right and to the left of the stairs are terraced, salon-like spaces which invite guests to sit together over coffee, cocktails, or small plates.

These public yet private-in-feel interiors extend opportunities to see and be seen – urban theater?, if you will.

We were led from the Foyer, through the Pierre-Yves Rochon designed restaurant, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, to the beckoning Bar.

With 30-foot ceilings, subtle lighting, plush leather bar stools, and an extensive menu of perhaps the most masterful cocktails I have ever experienced, The Bar is a highly desirable destination.

We were hosted with attentive warmth and enjoyed our visit and each other’s company immensely. The Bar at The Four Seasons is an “A +” interior design experience “must.”

As with all experiences, the photos do not do it justice – you absolutely must see it with your own eyes.
