WHAT’S NEW? WHAT’S NEXT?!
This Fall I flew to North Carolina to attend High Point Furniture Market, the largest international to-the-trade furnishings industry show in the world. Encompassing 180 buildings and drawing more than 75,000 people for the show’s six day duration, High Point is where the world goes to see what’s new and next in home decor. One of the sponsors of my visit was Howard Elliott, a showroom not only on the forefront, but always on the cutting edge of design. I was given a private tour of Howard Elliott latest pieces, all of which fall into what I see as the 6 home decor ideas that will define the year ahead.
1: BLACK & GOLD
Two colors have never looked so luxe together. We’ve all heard that every room needs a touch of black. When paired with a classic gold finish, every bit of black looks that much more dramatic, and the gold that much more glam. The medallion gold mirror (pictured) is an especially striking example how grandly these two hues mix together.
2: BRONZE & COPPER
Directly influenced by the display of copper and unlacquered bronze finishes in Paris during Maison et Objet in January, bronze and copper are hitting across the Atlantic in a huge away. The more these two materials are touched, the more they change, and the patina they develop is not only organic, but unique to each piece and one-of-a-kind. The warmth and glow that copper and bronze add to an interior are magnetic, as exemplified by the Clara Mirror and Cougar Bronze Pillows (shown below).
3: CURIOUS & COLLECTED
Anything but the expected is the name of the game when it comes to the curious and collected look. The more eclectic and off-the-beaten path, the better. As with the Nickel-Plated Bull Head and Horn Sculpture (pictured below), as these pieces are added to, the curious collection continues to evolve with each new treasure added.
4: METALLICS & FUR
Just as they are on the runway, metallic and fur are going to be bigger than ever in the coming year. The Cougar Throw, a metallic fur accent piece, and the Mink Ottoman, the coziest occasional seating option I can imagine, are two of my favorites from the Fall Collection (pictured below).
5: NATURAL LUXE
Neutral, organic, hues will never go out of style. To warm them up and and add a layer of luxury, Howard Elliott’s new Fall offerings have rich patinas with natural luxe accents like mirror, gold leaf, and glass.
6: RICHLY RUSTICATED
The old world charm that accompanies a touch of rust and a distressed finish is only going to grow in demand. Peeling tin ceilings and antiquated chapels come to mind with pieces like the Harrison and Graham mirrors and Rustic Side Table (pictured below). Everything old is new and in hot pursuit all over again.
