The September issue of Good Housekeeping hits newsstands tomorrow, and in it: Grey’s Anatomy star and self-proclaimed homebody, Ellen Pompeo, provides a sneak peek of how she relaxes in her Los Feliz home. Renovated and designed in collaboration Ellen’s close friend, interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, she details how she had a direct hand in every inch of her home’s renovation and design, often drawing inspiration from fashion (pairing black and navy, à la Lanvin), hotels (Morocco’s La Mamounia was a big influence), and exclusive hangouts like Soho House in New York (which prompted the incorporation of large velvet sofas into her space).
The actress also reveals how her current happy home and family life is the complete opposite of her painful childhood. “I’m a fiery girl, you know,” says Ellen, who grew up the youngest of six, just north of Boston, in her Irish and Italian family. “You can’t get out of where I come from if you’re a wallflower.” When she was just 5, her mother died suddenly. “My life started out with tragedy. I was pathetically insecure. I didn’t have a mother to tell me how amazing I was. I hope I live a really long time for my girls (daughters Stella, 6 and Sienna, 2). “I want to be with them for as long as possible.”
