AND WHERE EXACTLY?

You know we can’t possibly survive too far from city life. So, where will we be exactly? We’ll be residing in the charming city of McLean, VA for our first year — a mere 20 minutes from Washington DC! A twenty minute drive that is (you’ll be proud to know that we’re well on our way to becoming seasoned drivers!) And we’re right on the edge of a beautiful nature preserve that we plan to spend a lot of weekend afternoons exploring!

THE LIVING ROOM

As an interior designer, I have to say I’m really looking forward to specifying new furnishings for our place. We’re renting this house for a year, so we don’t want to buy anything that we can’t take with us to the house we eventually purchase, but we will need to supplement what we currently have in our NYC living room, namely: one seating arrangement.

THE DINING ROOM

While you click through these pics, as exciting as all of this is us, I can’t help but address how much we are going to miss New York! Many of our friends have asked us if we’ve created a “NYC Bucket List,” and each of them have gotten the same puzzled look and thoughtful “no.”

KITCHEN

Vikas and I have both lived in New York for 15+ years. We’ve talked about this multiple times, and there is not even one thing we can think of that we MUST do before leaving this city. It’s never possible to “do it all,” but it is possible to have done everything “wonderful” that you want to do. What we’ll miss most are the things that we’ve done over and over again. Clawing our way toward seats at the movie theater, walking from one end of the island to the other, experiencing the wonderful flavors and aromas of different cuisines, working out in Central Park. We’ve 4, 5 and 6 Looped that park more times than we can count and it’s amazing every. single. time. The diversity is something we’ll miss. The daily absurdities. The sense of freedom that the city gives you, and the ability to do anything, at any time.

FAMILY ROOM

So, yes, New York will always feel like home for us. It’s where we met, married, and where we have spent our first 7 years together. But we are so PUMPED to begin this new 20-minutes-from-the-District life together, with our nieces and nephew nearby, and with my siblings in NYC just a holiday-weekend-road-trip away. I can already see my sister and two brothers hanging out with us over the summer (reading in the backyard, summer barbecues, waving at the local deer, etc) and Vikas and I spending lots of time with both our families.

MASTER BEDROOM

I am so enthusiastic about all that is in store. The lush Southern landscapes. Buying (and decorating) a home together. My husbands first man cave! My first SUV, which naturally equals YARD SALES (hello!). Making new friends. Learning a new city. Spending time outdoors, in more private settings (are we ever truly alone outside in NYC?). Meeting new readers. Furnishing my suburban home-office. A gentler and more relaxed pace. And perhaps more than anything: the feeling of having more time in the day. A fond farewell to NYC and a warm welcome in Virginia. So there you have it. Delighted to have finally shared all of this with you!

[tps_footer]

For more fashion, beauty, and design, join us on Bloglovin | Facebook | Feedly | Instagram | Pinterest | Tumblr |

[/tps_footer]

" data-medium-file="" data-large-file="" class="alignnone wp-image-19722" src="http://www.mydesignchic.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/4bet.jpg" alt="4bet" width="650" height="433" />

Her work, to us, is elegant, classy and always with the tiniest touches of femininity, those little special things that make a house feel like home.
