Yesterday I enjoyed a private design trends event with Amerock Hardware and Eric Cohler, at the designer’s stylish studio in the Flatiron district of Manhattan. Acclaimed as a mix-master for his ability to create rooms that are simultaneously fresh and classic, and always a tribute to individual personality and style, Eric Cohler is an expert on what’s new and what’s next.
For this reason, Amerock invited myself and a select group of six additional bloggers to spend the day getting to know Eric’s curated hardware collections for the brand, as well as his observations on current and upcoming design trends.
the hottest trend coming across the Atlantic is copper, with unlacquered brass and bronze to follow
From his visit to Paris in January for Maison et Objet, Eric shared with us that the hottest trend coming across the Atlantic is copper, with unlacquered brass and bronze to follow. The designer notes that copper, unlacquered brass, and bronze are “living finishes,” because the more you touch them, the more they change. The patina that these finishes develop over time is organic, and unique to each piece, which in Eric explained, further enhances their desirability and beauty.
When it comes to hardware, Mr. Cohler explained, consumers should think of Amerock as their compass, taking them where they want to go. The designer has curated Amerock hardware styles into categories based on regions of the country, like #NortheastHome shown below, and #BiCoastal, above, making it easier to shop by style.
Eric emphasized that while it may not always be possible to renovate an entire kitchen, changing the knobs and handles on kitchen cabinets is an easy home refresh that anyone with a screwdriver can do. A wealth of accessible tips and tricks, Cohler encourages his clients to be true to themselves, revel in what makes them happy, and surround themselves with objects and art that reflect that joy.
