All Emotion: At Home on the Banks of the Tagus in Lisbon
“TODO EMOCIÓN” or ”All Emotion,” is a fitting title for this home in Lisbon, Portugal on the banks of the Tagus River. Designed by Portuguese powerhouse SA&V – Sa Aranha & Vasconcelos, this gorgeous abode deservedly made the cover of the March 2012 issue of Nuevo Estilo magazine. Let’s have a look.

In the image above, a view into the house from the entry. On display on the red laquered dresser, a plaster book sculpture signed by the artist Manuel Caldeira, a bronze figure purchased in Florence, and a crystal ball. The sphere is one of many in the owner’s collection, displayed throughout the house.
Below, the grand living room. The framed plaster work over the sofa is by artist Graça Pereira Coutinho, and on the left, the large oil painting behind the pair of chairs is by Spaniard Manuel Salinas. All furniture is by SA & V. Notice the owner’s amazing sphere collection, displayed in the foreground on the coffee table.
By the way, I’m ready to wrap myself in one of the fur throws and sit with a book on one of the slipper chairs.

The abstract color-block paintings over the sofa are by Portuguese painter Pedro Calapez. What a great floor plan – plenty of room for everyone to sit comfortably.

Louis XVI armchairs upholstered in leather add patina in the Living Room. The accent wall behind the console table is silver-leafed, a decorative finish elegantly used throughout the home. On the wooden console table, violins from the French sculptor Armand.

The silver-leaf motif is brought into the dining room on the ceiling, showcasing a stunning chandelier. The dining chairs are by Ligne Roset and the smashing oval table is from Julian Chichester. The masters style painting over the console table provides provenance.

In the kitchen, the pair of chairs around the breakfast table are B&B Italia. The red painting over the table is by Joseph Barrias and the leather chair printed with French script is brilliant.

The sleek black and white Gaggeneau appliances mix beautifully with the white cow hide over the wood floor.

In the Master Bedroom, a pair of drawings by Pires Vieira over the bed.

The gilded zebra-hide Louis chair resonates effectively against a Modernist white lacquer chest of drawers.

In the Master Bath, the abstracted-floral Pierre Mesguich mosaic tile is an absolute show-stopper. The marble and mirrored glass play important supporting roles.

In the dressing room, custom closets, a white hide rug, a chrome and fur pouf, and an excess of space provide a lavish area for daily dressing.

Looking back into the entrance hall, the white Thassos marble floors with the thinnest black borders shine so chic-ly. A painting by Joan Miró boldly faces a pair of caned-back chairs found original to the house.

A break-taking interior from every vantage point.
