How phenomenal is the pattern play in this African fashion editorial from the April issue of Vanity Fair Italia? Model Nur Hellmann sports upwards of three patterns in each outfit, contrasted with vertical striped walls and striped and checkerboard floors.
While compositions like these are incredibly difficult to execute, stylist Elisabetta dal Bello and photographer Kenneth Willardt do so, perfectly.
When it comes to translating these looks to personal style, the idea here is not to duplicate these outfits or photo backdrops, but to gain ideas from them.
Mix it up a little, re-think existing patterned clothing, and even consider previously unlikely pairings.
I have several African-inspired print tops and skirts that I hadn’t thought of mixing with stripes or a contrasting pattern in a smaller or larger scale.
When putting together a room, these remix principals are obvious to me, but when I’m pulling together an outfit, I’m so much more shy.
After looking at these images, perhaps not as shy anymore?
If you see me wearing three prints at once, you’ll know where I got the idea from.
