Hi, I’m Sarah.
Interior Designer, Editor, and Entrepreneur.
And I’ve been in your shoes.
Indeed, I’m an Interior Designer. I studied Interior Design in NYC at Parsons The New School for Design, after graduating with my B.A. in English Literature from Haverford College. As an interior designer for over a decade, I developed design and style expertise under the wing of two of New York City’s best decorators, before starting my own self-titled interior design practice in 2011, and website in 2012. Yet, while I knew how to excel at interiors for others, when it came time to decorate my first place, I had trouble narrowing down what I liked. I had so many ideas that it was challenging to choose.
Now, Interior Design and Fashion go hand-in-hand. Yet, not that long ago I had a closet full of clothes, but felt I had nothing to wear. Not much worked together, I didn’t know what clothes were flattering in terms of color or fit, and I wasn’t sure what my “look” was, or if “a look” is even a thing.
Fast-forward to today. I know what I like, why I like it, and how valuable this knowledge is. Yet I remember what it was like in your shoes, because I walked in them, too. Within two years of running my namesake design practice, and this website on the side, my passion for helping women hone their decorating and personal style became my full-time focus. On sarahsarna.com, I have been empowering women like myself to address the same uncertainties that I used to have ever since.
I pay what I know now forward with articles, workbooks, and courses packed with decorating + style ideas and information. I love helping women like you (and not too long ago, me) recognize and trust your taste. The confidence to decorate a home you’re proud of, perfect your wardrobe, and find your signature skin care and cosmetics is already within you; my role is to empower and encourage you. What I’m thankful to spare you is the stress, wasted time, and misspent money I went through on my journey to learn what I like and what works for me. My life is simpler, easier, and happier with this awareness, and I believe I can help your life to be, too. In fact, I can’t wait to see the many ways you’ll be inspired.
From the early days of this site, I’ve enjoyed collaborations with like-minded home décor, personal style, and lifestyle brands, including, Calvin Klein Home, HP, INTEL, Neutrogena, Proctor & Gamble, Red Door Spas, Sprint, and Vitamin Water, among others. I’ve also been flattered to be cited as a lifestyle expert in print and online publications, such as HouseBeautiful.com, ElleDecor.com, and Lonny.com, and on many lists of best decorating sites. In reciprocity, I regularly share the wisdom and talent of fellow designers and tastemakers in interviews, and believe in learning from the expertise of others as much as I can.
When I’m not helping women like you (and formerly, me) to recognize and trust your taste, I spend zero time on the internet or devices. After 15 years in NYC; as of 2015, my husband and I live in McLean, Virginia, outside of Washington D.C. Since relocating I’ve learned how to drive a car and how to appreciate a slower, lengthier pace of life. With more time in the day, I’m able to practice Bikram yoga daily, read a new novel nearly every two weeks, savor at least two nights a week with my 4-year-old niece and 3-year-old nephew, and multiples with my husband. Longer days also make it easier to live the gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, soy-free, caffeine-free, and alcohol-free lifestyle that is m-a-g-i-c for me.
So, that’s me. I’ve been through the uncertainty that you feel, and I promise, promise, promise, everything is easier once you have confidence in you.
