I wrote this post in preparation for my third annual Manhattan Half Marathon this morning. I love snow, I love race walking, and I love Central Park, so this race – held late every January – is one of my favorites.
I woke up to the news, however, that “[i]n the interest of safety, and in consultation with NYC Parks and Recreation,” (excerpted from the NYRR site), the race will now be an “unscored (non-competitive) event,” and participants should use “caution in traveling to and from the event, and at all times before, during, and after your run.”
Thus, with safety in mind: I’ve decided to head instead to the gym!
What I wrote earlier, however, holds true: “There is absolutely nothing like endurance activity for one’s creativity and peace of mind. After a brisk, chilly, walk I feel amazing: energized, happy, and brimming with my clearest thoughts. It is the most exhilarating inspiration.”
…A brisk, room-temperature walk is good, too! Be safe and enjoy the snow.
